Some provisions of special education law require a policy explanation from our State Education Agency, TEA. In Texas, we call these policy explanations, State Guidance Documents. The purpose of the State Guidance Documents is to further explain the intent of the law or to explain how Texas expects the law to be implemented. These are updated often – so check back regularly.
In an effort to provide policy statements, in a timely manner, the Division of IDEA Coordination Policy Team developed a webpage where permanent policy documents live. Interested stakeholders (parents, school personnel, advocates, etc.) can check this page to find up-to-date direction on the provision of special education services in Texas.
Guidance may take the form of links to State Resources or short responses to commonly asked questions. The content on this web page is updated as soon as new information is available for public dissemination and is written in language that is easy to understand.
